Sometimes called shrub verbena, Lantana camara is a strong smelling tropical perennial, bearing tight heads of flowers which closely resemble verbena. It’s a popular house- and conservatory plant, grown either as a bushy shrub or trained as a standard, but it may also be grown outside for summer if kept in a warm sheltered place such as a courtyard or enclosed garden.
A standard packet of Lantana camara seeds will yield plants with red, orange, violet or white flowers that change colour as they age. Lantana camara ‘Lemon Cream’ has white flowers with a pretty lemon-yellow centre.
Grow Lantana camara ‘Lemon Cream’ in moist but well-drained soil in full sun, ideally in a container which you can move indoors or outdoors. Propagate by seed or softwood cuttings.
