Named monkeyflower after the apparent resemblance the blooms have to a monkey's face, Mimulus ringens is a rare marginal plant native to eastern North America, bearing pretty tubular violet or pink flowers in summer, contrasting with bright green leaves. It's perfect for growing at the edge of ponds or in a bog garden.

Grow Mimulus ringens in moist soil in full sun to partial shade. Cut back plants after flower and divide congested clumps in spring or autumn.
