Native to China and the Himalayas, Indigofera amblyantha is a rarely grown shrub, bearing delicate pinnate leaves and pretty light pink, late-summer flowers followed by dark purple seedpods. It’s a great choice for the herbaceous border and works well alongside roses and buddleia.
Grow Indigofera amblyantha in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered spot in full sun. In colder regions the plant may die back to the ground but should re-sprout in spring. Hard prune old wood and crossing branches in spring.
