Rhododendron 'Purple Passion' has masses of deep purple flowers with a pink-white centre, from late spring to early summer. The leaves are dark green and glossy. Compact in habit and with a rounded form, it makes striking centrepiece in an ornamental border but works well in a pot, too. It may also be grown as a hedge.

Grow Rhododendron 'Purple Passion' in humus-rich, moist but well-drained neutral to acidic soil (or peat-free ericaceous compost). It will tolerate more shade than other varieties. Rhododendrons are shallow-rooted so take care not to plant too deeply. Protect from harsh winter winds and mulch annually with a generous layer of leaf mould. There should be little or no need to prune.
