Scaevola is a relative newcomer in the garden, and has proved very successful as a basket and container annual for summer bedding. It’s semi-tropical, native to Australia, and thrives in warm sunny conditions, although it will also tolerate some shade, in pots or as edging to beds and borders.
Scaevola aemula ‘Blue Fan’ is an evergreen, upright but low-growing herbaceous perennial with almost succulent medium green coarsely toothed leaves. Masses of purple-blue fan-shaped blooms appear from spring through summer with violet blue petal lobes and yellow throats. It’s perfect for growing as bedding in rockeries and containers.
Grow Scaevola aemula ‘Blue Fan’ in full sun to partial shade in a well-drained soil. Take pots inside in autumn or offer winter protection if growing as a perennial.
