Sea campion, Silene uniflora, is a low-growing, semi-evergreen, native perennial, found in a variety of coastal habitats including cliffs, rocky islands and sand dunes. A small, clump-forming perennial with tiny, grey-green leaves and comparatively large white flowers, it’s similar in form to bladder campion, and was once thought to be a subspecies of it.

Silene uniflora ‘Alba’ bears masses of white bell-shaped flowers above blue-green foliage. As a coastal plant it’s tolerant of sandy conditions but also very rich soils, and is tolerant of sun and some shade. It’s ideal for growing in containers and rock gardens, and also in gravel gardens.

Grow Silene uniflora ‘Alba’ in moist but well-drained soil in sun or shade. Cut back after flowering.
