Readers were invited to join us for a special day with Alan Titchmarsh at Highclere Castle in September 2022. Widely recognised as the fictitious home of Lord Grantham in the ITV drama and recent film 'Downton Abbey', located near Newbury, it's the real home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon. The day included a tour of the state rooms and gardens, a light lunch, talks and Q&A session with. Lady Carnarvon and BBC Gardeners' World Magazine's Editor, Lucy Hall were also in attendance.

Alan has always been my gardening hero and he was even more lovely than I thought. His humour and fun make gardening even more enjoyable. It was so good that he spent time talking to all the guests and was happy to be photographed by everyone. A real gentleman.

It was lovely that the Countess was around to chat during the day and not just doing her talk at the beginning. She really is passionate about her gardens which was lovely to see and hear.
